Sensational Smyth clinches second Gold at Beijing 2008

Jason Smyth from Eglinton in Northern Ireland, stormed down the track in Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium today, and ran straight into the Paralympic record books. By winning the 200m in a World Record time (21.43secs.), Jason completed the elusive double of 100m and 200m at this year’s Paralympic Games.

A delighted Fred Cogley, President of Irish Blind Sports, said: “We are all delighted and extremely proud of Jason’s tremendous achievement in winning two gold medals; what a fantastic performance by such a young, but fast-maturing athlete. Jason is such a powerful role model for our younger athletes”
