Irish rowers win B Final at World Rowing Championships!!!August 2009Ireland adaptive rowers, including our own Shane Ryan from Limerick, battled to a strong victory in the B Final at the World Rowing Championships in Poland this morning. The legs, trunk and arms mixed coxed four beat the United States into second place after a gripping battle between these two strong teams and ahead of Russia, France and Poland. Team manager Joe Cunningham said: “the win was a major effort by all the crew and made up for our disappointment at not making the A final. This win places Ireland's crew of Emer Patten, Shane Ryan, Kevin du Toit, Sarah Caffrey along with cox Amy Judge at seventh in the world rankings. In the trunk and arms double scull Vincent Culhane and Karen Cromie finished fourth in their B Final Day Six (Irish interest) Legs, Trunk and Arms Mixed Coxed Fours B Final (Places 7 to 11): I am very pleased that Fintan O’Donnell is in Poland with the Irish squad – and is no doubt joining in the celebrations! |
