Sports coordinators needed!

January 2009

We are currently seeking to recruit Volunteer Sports Coordinators to further develop the work of Irish Blind Sports in the following areas:

-Tandem Cycling

-Swimming

-Waterskiing

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for enthusiastic, well organised and dedicated people with an interest in the above activities and in working with blind and visually impaired people. The successful candidates will:

-Work with the Sports Development Officer to increase participation levels in the specified activity
-Provide monthly feedback to the Sports Development Officer
-Organise facility booking and payment where necessary
-Liaise with existing participants to share information and network to find new participants
-Be open to supervision and support within the team
-Be able to give a commitment of 3 to 5 hours per week for 12 months
-Be available to participate in occasional sporting events such as away trips
-Be fully reimbursed for out of pocket expenses
-Be eligible for subsidised travel within Ireland and abroad to support sport participants
-Be supported by the IBS Volunteer Policy

Essential qualities:

-Enthusiastic, outgoing nature
-Strong organisational skills
-Excellent communication skills
-Reliable
-Be able to give a commitment of 12 months

Desirable, but not necessary:

-Knowledge and experience in either swimming or tandem cycling or waterskiing
-Experience in working with blind and visually impaired people
-Own transportation
-Coaching experience/ qualifications
