British Blind Golf Open 2009, Irish Blind Golf Society Results, Hamilton G.C. British Blind Open 2009

June 2009

This year's championship took place in Hamilton G.C. in Scotland. Forty two golfers from across Europe and North America travelled to the venue to compete with the best blind golfers from the home countries. The course yielded some very low scores on the first day, thanks to the benign weather conditions. Scotland's' Cameron McDiarmada shot an outstanding 62 nett to lead after the first 18. The scoring was not as hot on the second day. McDiarmada held on shooting a nett 68 to lift both the gross and the nett titles. Northern Irelands' Drew Cochrane and Jan Dinsdale finished second and third respectively.
Irish Blind Golf Society sent three golfers to Hamilton this year, to represent Ireland.
Two of our representatives, Jimmy Murray and Owen Kyne, elected to play in the Hamilton Shield. This is an 18 hole stableford competition run alongside the main stroke play event. Eleven golfers played in the Shield, which was won by Ron Tomlinson of England with 42 points. Jimmy Murray finished second with 33 points, and Owen Kyne came fourth with 26 points.
Wally Roode was the only Irish golfer to feature in the stroke play event. He returned a creditable 160 nett from a relatively low handicap of 24.
Irish Blind Golf Society would like to thank the organising committee of the Scottish and English Blind Golf Associations, and their sponsors for facilitating our players at this event. Congratulations once again to the golfers in Northern Ireland for their magnificent achievements. We look forward to playing with Drew and Jan in the Celtic Cup in September.
