March 2009
Jimmy Murray, who celebrated his 70th birthday last month, finished with two fours to record a popular victory at the opening event of the 2009 golf season. A magnificent 7-wood approach to the short eighth, set up a par for the gritty performer. He topped his round off by hitting his driver to twelve feet on the par 3 ninth, closing out with an uncharacteristic three putt. Jimmy outplayed Wally Roode into second place by three strokes. Best gross went to teenager Adrian Canny, who shot a respectable 47 shots over the nine holes.
This is the fourth occasion that IBGS has been invited to Newlands. This has been made possible by the gentlemen of the "Thursdays" golf society. This society, who played with the blind golfers, made all the members and caddies of IBGS feel welcome. Many thanks to "Thursdays" captain Sean Oates and of course to Jimmy Sealy for their generosity.
Results: J. Murray (43), 22 points, W. Roode (30) 19 points, P. O'Rahilly (22) 14 points, A. Canny (19) 14 points, I. Corr (36) 12 points, O. Kyne (36) 6 points.
