May Games 2009

May 2009

Participants and athletes gathered once more in the ALSAA Sports Centre on Saturday May 9th in order to compete in Irish Blind Sports' 29th Annual May Games.
The weather in the morning was chilly, windy and rainy but determined athletes managed to participate despite the unseasonal weather.
In the afternoon, the sun came out to the great relief of all.
This year, IBS was happy to have athletes from Ireland, the U.K. and Austria, who competed in Tandem Cycling, Swimming, Bowling and Athletics.

Danjiel Krnjeta of Austria won the 100 metre final, the 200 metre final and also the trophy for Overall Athlete of the Games. Ross Gallagher came in second in the Men's 400m final, the Mile walk, the Men's 800m and first in the Men's long jump.

Irish Blind Sports was once again honoured to have participants from the Irish Wheelchair Association. This year, Patrick Flanagan gave Aggie Goldrick a good swim for her money and came in second in all the competitions he entered: 25m front crawl, 25m backstroke, 50m front crawl and 50m backstroke.

Next year, 2010, will be Irish Blind Sports' 30th anniversary of the May Games. We intend to celebrate in style, offering competitors a new twist on our events.
Hope to see you then!
