Catherine Walsh wins first World Para Track Cycling Championship Medal in Manchester

Catherine Walsh once more has produced a fantastic performance in taking silver in the 3km Individual Pursuit at the World Para Track Cycling Championships in Manchester. Catherine and pilot rider Caroline Ryan finished second with a time of 3.38.756, behind the American team who produced a new World Record Time of 3.36.362 to beat them. They also went on to set a new Irish Record of 1:14.664 in the 1km Time trial to secure 5th place.

The male pairing of Michael Delaney and Con Collis also set an Irish Record Time of 10:857, thus qualifying 3rd fastest in the 200m Sprint competition. Unfortunately they crashed out during the quarterfinals against Canada. No major injuries are reported.

The other male tandem in the B&VI 4km Pursuit, Andrew Fitzgerald and pilot Paul Giblin recorded a PB time of 4:43.437 good enough to give them 9th place overall.

Other non visually impaired team members team members Cathal Miller and Enda Symth also performed well. Miller set a New Irish Record on his way to qualify for a Bronze Medal ride off in the 4km Individual Pursuit where he finished with a tremendous 4th place. Smyth set an Irish Record in the CP4 4km Individual Pursuit competition of 5:18.048.
