Golf NewsMarch 2010Nine enthusiastic golfers from the Irish Blind Golf Society attended the first golf clinic for blind and visually impaired golfers at East Cork GC in Middleton, Co. Cork. This followed on from the success of the “tryout day” last October in Lee Valley G.C. Of the nine golfers two were experienced golfers, who had given up the game when they lost their eyesight, and whom we hope to help to acquire the skills needed to play the game without sight. The quality of their golf shots was matched by the seven novices, due in no small part to the excellent tuition available. Natural ball striking ability was strongly in evidence during a 90 minutes session in the driving bays before retreating to the clubhouse for a warming cup of tea. Many thanks are extended to Sinead Costello, Cork Local Sports Partnership and to Terence McSweeney, Activities Manager COPE Foundation. As well as helping the golfers, Terence was also able to transport people in the COPE-mobile. The clinic was facilitated by local professional golfer Don McFarlane. Please note the dates set for the next two clinics. April 15th and May 17th. Details of forthcoming clinic can be had from Sinead Costello on 021 466 5085 or email scostello@clsp.com.
