March 2010

Report & Results from Newlands G.C. 9 Hole Competition held on March 11th 2010

Wally Roode, who has been the outstanding golfer for the last 12 months, made a good start to the new season even though his handicap has been cut by 6 shots. With a score of 23 points he was two ahead of J. Murray and four ahead to P. O’Rahilly. Wally has been working hard on his game throughout the winter despite the atrocious weather conditions. He scored no points on the first hole at the Newlands course but made up for that by returning five pars over the following eight holes.

This is the fifth occasion that IBGS has been invited to Newlands GC and was made possible by the gentlemen of the “Thursdays” golf society. This society, who played with the blind golfers, made all the members and caddies of IBGS feel very welcome. Many thanks are extended to the “Thursdays” captain and of course to Jimmy Sealy for their generosity.

Results: W Roode (24), 23 points, J. Murray (45), 21 points, P. O’Rahilly (29) 19 points, A. Canny (16) 16 points, J. Lonergan (36P), 12 points, I. Corr (45) 8 points.
