Irish Blind Sports

Fishing / Angling

Irish Blind Sports would like to encourage visually impaired people to do all sorts of activities. One great outdoor activity that can be done as a purely recreational activity is fishing and angling.

There are no age or gender barriers for this activity. It is suitable either as an individual hobby or as a family or social outing with friends. It combines the outdoors with challenge, skill and physical activity.

The amount of equipment required is minimal for the beginner but as one’s fishing experience expands so does the need for specialized rods and reels, different types of bait, clothing and the variety of locations where one can fish. One can fish in rivers, lakes and the sea – both from the shore and on the seas). The variety of fish being caught is equally large and each type presents its own challenges. Expert guidance is available for visually impaired people at any level and may be organized anywhere in Ireland.

If you think they might like to start fishing, or if you have given it up prior to developing a visual impairment and would like to get involved in fishing or angling again then remember fishing starts by throwing in the first line!

Fishing can be a great way to relax and to spend a few hours in the midst of nature. If you would like to try please contact us at the contact points below.
