Archery
Blind Archery, the most recent sport to have been given official status within IBSA, and is now to be presented to the IPC Archery Sports Assembly in order to gain inclusion in the Paralympic games. There are eight categories within IBSA archery accommodating the differing levels of vision. At present it is expected that blind archery, as a category at IPC world championships as well as at regional championships and tournaments etc., will only be two categories, male and female, wearing blackouts/shades. Blind Archery will be presented at the IPC Archery World Championships, where blind archers from Great Britain, France, Belgium and Italy (and maybe more) have been invited to compete in exhibition events in an endeavour to show the IPC nations that blind archery should be accepted as an additional category. This is great news as blind archers can now have the same aspirations as any other archers with disabilities – to be able to compete at the highest level. Irish blind Sports will be happy to facilitate anybody who is interested in trying out this new sport for visually impaired in Ireland.
