“Watching people like Jason Smyth doing so well shows us that it can be done with hard work and it’s very inspiring,” Paralmympic middle distance hopeful Amanda Crotty, Youghal, Cork

Mark Walsh, student, prepared and emailed us an excellent thesis on a fictional, based on reality, PR Campaign for Irish Blind Sports. We absolutely love the following suggestion:

_“It is suggested that IBS launches its “Shades” campaign in February 2013. This will be the selling of sunglasses in certain shops, at events and at certain locations on streets around the country. The sunglasses will be all black and will have the IBS logo on the frames. All of the money made from the sale of the sunglasses will go to IBS. Buyers will also get a leaflet explaining what IBS does, a list our upcoming sporting event and where and how people can join. Using Daffodil Day as its template, “Shades Day” will be on the 1st March, when people will wear their sunglasses all day no matter what the weather is like.

“The campaign will be launched on Grafton Street. Volunteers and IBS athletes will be present along with one or two of the ambassadors for a few photos wearing the shades. On the 1st March there will also be a photo call on Grafton Street with as many ambassadors as possible and some of our athletes”. _

Slippery Slopes Success

Ski Saturday at Kiltiernan Report

On Saturday 28th January 2012 a group of 5 skiers took to the slopes at the Ski club of Ireland in Kilteernan. We were due to have six participants but one person was sick. We had three complete beginners who were at various levels of nervousness but all were very enthusiastic afterwards. Our other two participants are now members and had done some skiing previously, both got on very well. IBS hope to book Kilternan again in March/April
